The survey found that Taiwanese consumers are tech savvy and well connected to the internet. 95% of respondents are smartphone owners and over 82% have a desktop or laptop computer. Around 63% of households own a tablet device, the third highest percentage in Asia Pacific.
The high adoption rate of mobile technology is one factor supporting the growth of online shopping in Taiwan. Nearly 80% of survey respondents said they had shopped online for nonfood products, a figure 10 percentage points higher than the overall average for Asia Pacific. Government statistics show that total non-store retailing sales in Taiwan have increased at a compound annual growth rate of 7% over the past decade.
